EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANT (Teacher Assistant) PROGRAM - Advance Training (Level 3/C): This 10-month program (July 23, 2012 - May 31, 2013) pre-employment training program is certified by Red River College. This program is delivered by Urban Circle Adult Learning Centre within a culturally relevant context. The Educational Assistant (EA) Program is certified by Red River College and is being delivered in partnership with several local school divisions who are committed to provide practicum placements and support for the candidates. The curriculum will include training in all EA classifications. Graduates of this program will learn to assist students with learning disabilities as well as those who display challenging behaviours. After graduation, opportunities for employment and advanced education (Bachelor of Education) are excellent. All students participate in a full course work load and are required to attend Monday to Friday, 9am to 4:30pm. Students must secure funding to provide their cost of living. MB Entrepreneurship, Training & Trade is already cost- sharing some of the tuition and covering the costs for the pre-employment Life Skills/Cultural component of this program. Eighteen Seats (18) are reserved for candidates on Employment & Income Assistance. E&IA will cover all training costs, tuitions, books and supplies (pending funding). The remaining seats (up to 10 seats) are cost-shared with MB Entrepreneurship, Training & Trade. TUITION costs are $5,995.00 per student which covers all training costs. You MUST have your personal cost of living provided by a funder (ie. social assistance, E.I./EMB, Band/Council, MB Metis Federation, etc.). Individual seat purchases are available. Recruitment for 2012-13 program will begin in late February 2012!

ADULT APPRENTICESHIP & EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM - STREAM #2 ( Focused on pre-employment skills, employment & post secondary education). This 10-month (August 27, 2012 – June 18, 2013) pre-employment training program is an 8 credit Manitoba High School Diploma program offered in partnership with Manitoba Adult Learning & Literacy and the Seven Oaks School Division. The training includes a life skills and cultural awareness component in addition to the full high school curriculum and their selected work placement. Recruitment for 2012-13 program will begin in late February 2012! Courses included in the program are: English Language Arts 40S Applied Mathematics 40S Life Skills 41G Career Development 40S Biology 40S Canadian History 30S World Issues 40S Print Communications 25S Relational Databases 35S This program allows you to obtain a Mature Grade 12 Diploma. Scotiabank Canada, in partnership with Urban Circle Training Centre Inc., is proud to offer the Scotiabank Scholarship for Business Studies for three qualifying students in the Adult Apprenticeship and Employment Program, Stream #2. Each Scholarship is valued at $4000 and will be awarded to students who will have completed a Mature Grade 12 Diploma by June, 2011 and will have successfully enrolled at a registered Canadian post-secondary institution in Business Studies, including any one of the following areas: Commerce, Finance, Business Administration, IT, computer Programming, Marketing, Human Resources. Students will have a genuine interest in pursuing a career with Scotiabank. The recipients of the scholarships will be selected by the teachers at Urban Circle Training Centre and a representative from Scotiabank. Applications will be available to students February 1, 2011. This 10-month (August 27, 2012– June 21, 2013) pre-employment training program is dually-certified by Red River College and is delivered in partnership with Health Sciences Centre. The Health Care Aide/Health Unit Clerk program will have a dual purpose. First, it will prepare a health care worker who, under the supervision of a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse, assists hospital patients, personal care home residents, or home care clients with meeting physical, emotional and social needs. Through theory classes, skills lab, and clinical experience, the program will provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to work effectively in any health care setting. Secondly the program will provide students with the knowledge and skills required to function as a unit clerk in a health facility through a blend of: beginning level computer skills, anatomy and medical terminology and theory and practical courses directly related to the roles and responsibilities of unit clerk.

In response to this need, Urban Circle Training Centre and Red River College – Community Services Department are partnering in the delivery of a 11-month Family Support Worker/FASD Certificate program for Aboriginal women and men which incorporates the Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Certificate Program. Graduates successfully completing all requirements will earn Red River College dual certification in these areas of specialization.
Based on Red River College’s ongoing consultation with current service providers, the curriculum focuses on a wide range of skill development including assessment, advocacy, communication, referral and parenting skills. In addition, the curriculum will cover the theory of child development, current theories of family dynamics, and the promotion of health and safety for children and their families. Understanding the needs of individuals effected by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and the resources available to families is an integral part of the program..

The program includes a 150-hour practicum placement within an established Child & Family Services agency to gain hands-on experience at the end of the program. The program will be delivered at Urban Circle Training Centre and will have an Aboriginal culturally based component. Abundant employment opportunities have been identified in child and family agencies and other youth care and social services agencies within the core area of Winnipeg. The program is certified by Red River College. There are excellent employment opportunities upon completion of the program. This course is a “stepping stone” into social work field.
